The George Inn
Imagine the perfect English country local
That’s what we did in 2014, when given the keys to our sprawling coach house in the North Somerset hills. A roaring fire, cask ales and a family-friendly beer garden were at the top of our list. In the kitchens we’d serve the dishes that made our first pub, Somerset House, famous. Driven by our trademark perfection, we’d keep working until we’d created the finest country local in the South West. And by George; we think we managed it.
We think you’ll like it here
Abbots Leigh is a short hop from beautiful Clifton Village, across the Avon Gorge via Brunel’s Suspension Bridge. It’s an idyllic escape from the Bristol city bustle, nestled in the heart of Leigh Woods and perfectly positioned for long walks through the rolling Somerset hills.
Tau Tona started life as The Somerset House
On the other side of Brunel’s Bridge in Clifton Village. There, we’d built for ourselves a reputation for delicious, inventive dishes and the warmth of our hospitality. Dining and entertaining is what we do best, and we jumped at the chance to own our own country local – a summer garden and a cosy log fire being something we’d always wanted. In 2014 we renovated The George inside and out, creating a worthy countryside sister to Somerset House. The chance to try a whole selection of cask ales was professionally rewarding, too…
You’ll see George everywhere at the Inn
He’s a country gentleman who embodies the spirit of things here. Often seen roaming around Leigh Woods, he eats the best, drinks the best and lives off the good of the land – just as we do.
